The graph is roughly linear with negative slope between 1972 and 1982 but seems to flatten out after that. Sketch a piecewise linear function that best approximates the data. b. Set 1972 as year 0 and create a piecewise linear function that describes winning times for women. If using technology, you can create 2 regression lines from 2 subsets of the data, using either the Excel or graph link file MARATHON. c. Interpret the slopes of the 2 linear pieces. d. What would you predict for the winning time in 2010? Since the 2010 Marathon has already occurred, check your prediction on the Internet. e. Write a 60-second summary describing the Boston Marathon winning times for women.
