In Exercise 7 in Section 2.9 we met the greatest integer function f(x) 5 [x], where [x] is the greatest integer #x; (i.e., you round down to the nearest integer). So [21.5] 5 22 and [3.99] 5 3. This function is sometimes written using the notation JxK and called the floor function. There is a similar ceiling function, g(x) 5
