Let represent the retail price of an item (in dollars), and let represent the sales tax on the item. Assume that the sales tax is 6% of the retail price and that the sales tax is rounded to the nearest cent. Does this function have an inverse function? (Hint: Can you undo this function? For instance, if you know that the sales tax is $0.12, can you determine exactly what the retail price is?)
