Solved: At 300 K, an 8.50-mol sample of carbon dioxide

Chapter , Problem 70

(choose chapter or problem)

At 300 K, an 8.50-mol sample of carbon dioxide occupies avolume of 0.220 m3. Calculate the gas pressure, first byassuming the ideal gas law, and then by using the van der Waalsequation of state. (The values for a and b are given inSection 18-5.) In this range of pressure and volume, thevan der Waals equation is very accurate. What percenterror did you make in assuming ideal-gas-law behavior?
