Chapter , Problem 60

(choose chapter or problem)

Imagine that a steady current I flows in a straight cylindricalwire of radius R0 and resistivity p. (a) If the current is thenchanged at a rate di/dt, show that a displacement current /Dexists in the wire of magnitude e0p(dl/dt). (b) If the currentin a copper wire is changed at the rate of 1.0 A/ms, determinethe magnitude of /D. (c) Determine the magnitude of themagnetic field BD (T) created by /d at the surface of a copperwire with R0 = 1.0 mm. Compare (as a ratio) BD with thefield created at the surface of the wire by a steady current of1.0 A.
