Refer Figure 30.7.

The electric field emerges from positive plate and terminates at negative plate. So, the direction of electric field is downward as given in Figure 30.7.

The magnetic field starts from North Pole of one magnet and travel towards South Pole of other. The direction of magnetic field is shown in Figure 30.7.
