GNI PPP (Gross National Income Purchasing Power Parity)—How much will an amount of money buy in another country. China’s GNI PPP is lower because of the enormous population. 2. GDP (Gross Domestic Product)—The value of everything produced in a country. Varies in parts of individual countries based on tourism, industry, etc. 3. HDI (Human Development Index) i. Indicators: Life expectancy at birth, Mean years of schooling, expected years of schooling, and Gross national income per capita ii. Dimensions: Health, Education, and Living standards iii. Scale from 0.0 to 1.0 (map on pg. 301) 4. Human Suffering Index (not as commonly used) 5. Types of jobs available B. Jobs 1. Primary i. Related to the creation of something (farming, mining, fishing, etc.) 2. Secondary i. Making something out of extracted substances (food, TVs, cars, etc.) 3. Tertiary i. Provision of goods and services (teachers, salespeople, etc.) 4. The majority of the population are tertiary workers i. Primary and secondary jobs have decreased in developed countries while tertiary jobs have increased ii. Primary jobs have decreased in developing countries iii.
