One formula for estimating body surface area (BSA) was developed by Edith Boyd (University of Minnesota Press, 1935). Her formula for the BSA (in square meters) of a patient of height H (in centimeters) and weight W (in grams) is BSA 0.0003207 # H0.3 # W (0.7285-0.0188 log W).In Exercises 88 and 89, use Boyds formula to estimate the body surface area of a patient with the given weight and height. Round to the nearest hundredth of a square meter. W = = 180 pounds (81,646.6 grams) H = 6 feet 1 inch (185.42 centimeters)
