A particle that has a mass m is traveling with a constant velocity along a straight line that is a distance b from the origin O (Figure 10-44). Let be the area swept out by the position vector from O to the particle during a time interval dt. Show that is constant and is equal to where L is the magnitude of the angular momentum of the particle about the origin.
