Chapter , Problem 11

(choose chapter or problem)

During an advanced physics lab, students measure the Compton wavelength, \(\lambda_{\mathrm{C}}\). The students obtain the following wavelength shifts \(\lambda_{\mathrm{s}}-\lambda_{\mathrm{i}}\) as a function of scattering angle \(\theta\).

\(\begin{array}{llllll} \boldsymbol{\theta} & 45^{\circ} & 75^{\circ} & 90^{\circ} & 135^{\circ} & 180^{\circ} \end{array}\)

\(\begin{array}{llllll} \boldsymbol{\lambda}_{\mathrm{s}}-\boldsymbol{\lambda}_{\mathbf{i}} & 0.647 \mathrm{pm} & 1.67 \mathrm{pm} & 2.45 \mathrm{pm} & 3.98 \mathrm{pm} & 4.95 \mathrm{pm} \end{array}\)

Use their data to estimate the value for the Compton wavelength. Compare this number with the accepted value.
