On the average, a neutron loses 63 percent of its energy in a collision with a hydrogen atom and 11 percent of its energy in a collision with a carbon atom. Calculate the number of collisions needed to reduce the energy of a neutron from to if the neutron collides with (a) hydrogen atoms and (b) carbon atoms.
