Chapter 10, Problem 53P

(choose chapter or problem)

Consider a Brayton refrigeration cycle with a regenerative heat exchanger. Air enters the compressor at \(480^{\circ} \mathrm{R}, \ 15 \mathrm{\ lbf} / \mathrm{in}^{2}\) and is compressed isentropically to \(40 \mathrm{\ lbf} / \mathrm{in.}^{2}\) Compressed air enters the regenerative heat exchanger at \(540^{\circ} \mathrm{R}\) and is cooled to \(480^{\circ} \mathrm{R}\) before entering the turbine. The expansion through the turbine is isentropic. If the refrigeration capacity is 15 tons, calculate

(a) the volumetric flow rate at the compressor inlet, in \(\mathrm{ft}^{3} / \min\).

(b) the coefficient of performance.
