Solved: The life span in hours of an electrical component

Chapter 4, Problem 3.69

(choose chapter or problem)

The life span in hours of an electrical component is a random variable with cumulative distribution function

\(F(x)=\left\{\begin{array}{ll} 1-e^{-\frac{x}{50}}, & x>0 \\ 0, & \text { eleswhere } \end{array}\right.\)

(a) Determine its probability density function.

(b) Determine the probability that the life span of such a component will exceed 70 hours.
