Chapter , Problem 4.73

(choose chapter or problem)

A boxcar moving at 1.3 m/s hits the shock absorber at the end of the track (Figure P4.73). The boxcar mass is 18 000 kg;. The stiffness of the absorber is k = 73 000 N/m, and the damping coefficient is \(c=88000 \mathrm{~N} \cdot \mathrm{s} / \mathrm{m}\). Determine the maximum spring compression and the time for the boxcar to stop.
