Problem 19.106

Protons having a kinetic energy of 5.00 MeV are moving in the positive x-direction and enter a magnetic fi eld of 0.050 0 T in the z-direction, out of the plane of the page, and extending from x _ 0 to x _ 1.00 m as in Figure P19.73. (a) Calculate the y-component of the protons momentum as they leave the magnetic fi eld. (b) Find the angle a between the initial velocity vector of the proton beam and the velocity vector after the beam emerges from the fi eld. (Hint: Neglect relativistic effects and note that 1 eV _ 1.60 _ 10_19 J.)

Step-by-Step Solution:
Step 1 of 3

Vectors Friday, August 25, 2017 11:28 AM X(position)--> v(velocity)--> a(acceleration) - Assume acceleration is constant a = change in velocitythroughout time v = velocity when t = 0 X = position when t=0 Variables for KinematicsEquations - t - a - v - v - x = x-x Example in One Dimension Speed at which a bullet comes down when shot straight up. Find v when the position is x (it has come back to the ground. Example in 2 dimensions Vector - means more than one number for its position - In 2 dimensional space it needs 2 numbers Vectors Friday, August 25, 2017 11:28 AM X(position)--> v(velocity)-
