Brain versus Computer. Can the human brain perform more

Chapter 9, Problem 46

(choose chapter or problem)

Brain versus Computer. Can the human brain perform more calculations per second than a supercomputer? The calculating speed of the three top supercomputers,IBMs Blue Gene/L, IBMs BGW, and IBMs ASC Purple, has been determined. The speed of IBMs Blue Gene/L is 245 teraops more than IBMs BGW. The computing speed of IBMs BGW is 22 teraops more than IBMs ASC Purple. The combined speed of all three top supercomputers is 568 teraops. Determine the computing speed (in teraops) of each supercomputer. A teraop is the measure of a computers speed and can be expressed as one trillion oating-point operations per second. By comparison,it is estimated that thehuman brain can perform 10 quadrillion calculations per second.
