An aluminum cylindrical strain-gage load cell [Figure

Chapter , Problem 8.45

(choose chapter or problem)

An aluminum cylindrical strain-gage load cell [Figure 8.34(b)] is to be specified to measure a force of 400,000 N. The maximum stress in the metal is to be 100,000 kPa, the modulus of elasticity is 6.55 X 107 kPa, and Poisson's ratio is 0.33. What must be the wall thickness of a 15 em OD cylinder. If it is instrumented with four active strain gages (two axial, two transverse) with S = 2.1, R = 400 n, and the power supply of 10 V, what will be the output at maximum load?
