QUESTION:

Find the total momentum of the birds in Example 9–1 if the goose reverses direction.

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 5:

A person throws a bread into a pond. Two ducks are approaching towards the bread and one goose moves away from the bread. The directions of the ducks and the goose are given the diagram. We are going to find the magnitude of the total momentum of the three birds and the direction. The ducks have the same mass and the bread is located at the origin.

The mass of a single duck md = 4 kg

The mass of the goose mg = 9 kg

The velocity of one duck vd = 1.1 m/s

The velocity of the goose vg = 1.3 m/s
