Problem 41P

CE On a planet in a different solar system the acceleration of gravity is greater than it is on Earth. Tf you float in a pool of water on this planet, do you float higher than, lower than, or at the same level as when you float in water on Earth?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

The phenomenon of floating remains same in both the cases, the planet with greater acceleration due to gravity than Earth and on Earth.

The weight with which body goes down and the upward thrust due to buoyancy force will be changing by the same factor when the acceleration due to gravity is increased. Because the more weight with which the body moves downward will compensate the effect of increased buoyant force ensuring the object floating at the same level even though the gravity is increased.
