Problem 16P

Points A and B have electric potentials of 332 V and 149 V, respectively. When an electron released from rest at point A arrives at point C, its kinetic energy is KA. When the electron is released from rest at point B, however, its kinetic energy when it reaches point C is KB = 2KA. What are (a) the electric potential at point C and (b) the kinetic energy KA?

QUESTION:

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2:-

a)

The electric potential at point A is 332 V.

The electric potential at point B is 149 V.

When the electron released from A, it has a kinetic energy of at point C.

When the electron released from B, it has a kinetic energy of at point C.

But .

From the conservation of energy,

-----------(1)

--------------(2)

And

-----------(3)

----------------(4)

Now, from equation (2) and (4),

So, by putting the above value in equation (1),

            .

So, the potential at point C will be 515 V.
