QUESTION:

Saturated liquid-vapor mixture of water, called wet steam, in a steam line at \(1500 \mathrm{kPa}\) is throttled to \(50 \mathrm{kPa}\) and \(100^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\). What is the quality in the steam line?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 4

As there is only one exit and inlet , the final mass flow rate of air outlet  is equal to initial mass flow rate of air at inlet  and mass flow rate of air

Assume throttling valve as the steady-flow system that is a control volume as mass traverses the boundary. Write the energy balance for system in the rate form as follows:

 …….(1)

Here, rate of net energy transfer in to the control volume is , rate of net energy transfer exit.
