Show that if x i =axi +b and y i =cyi +d for some

Chapter 12, Problem 12.9.2

(choose chapter or problem)

Show that if x i =axi +b and y i =cyi +d for some constants a, b, c, and d, then the sample correlation coefcient of the data points (xi, yi) is equal to the sample correlation coefcient of the data points (x i , y i ) except for a possible sign change. For the data sets in 12.9.3 through 12.9.9, what is the sample correlation coefcient r? Show that the t-statistic written in terms of the sample correlation coefcient t=rn2/1r2 is equal to the t-statistic t = 1/s.e.( 1) calculated earlier.
