One day, after pulling down your window shade, you noticethat sunlight is passing through a pinhole in the shade andmaking a small patch of li ght on the far wall. Having recentlystudied optics in your physics c lass, you're not too surprisedto see that the patch of light seems to be a circular di ffraction pattern. It appears that the central maximum is about3 cm across, and you estimate that the distance from the windowshade to the wall is about 3 m. Knowing that the averagewavelength of sunli ght is about 500 nm, estimate the diameterof the pinhole.
