ANSWER: First of all the system cannot be isolated because an isolated system is, which does not exchange energy or temperature with it’s surrounding and with any other system. But the ball of putty when released from a height of 2 meter, it had potential energy. After hitting the ground, the gravitational potential energy will be gone or in other means got transferred to the surrounding. By friction with air and by the collision with earth’s surface it’s temperature will be increased a little bit, but still a significant amount of energy would be transferred to the surrounding. So, by no way it can be isolated.
