The accompanying figure shows the graph of a line l. (a) According to the text, what is the polar equation for l? (b) By converting the equation in part (a) to rectangular form, show that the x-y equation for l is x cos a y sin a d. (This equation is called the normal form for a line.) Hint: First use one of the addition formulas for cosine.
