SOLUTION: Step 1 of 3 The acceleration due to gravity on the earth surface is 9.8 m/s and it varies with altitude and depth if we go upwards from earth surface it decreases and if we go downward from earth surface decreases. Exactly at the centre of earth aceelaration due to gravity is zero so The speed of the rock will be increasing when it is thrown downward due to the gravitational force on the rock due to the Earth. Below figure shows the motion diagram for the rock when it throws straight down towards the water. Initially, the rock has the minimum velocity and its magnitude will increase due to the gravitational force acting on it.
