ANSWER:

SOLUTION: Step 1 of 3 Motion diagram; When the styrofoam is thrown or project or shot straight up the air resistance acts on the ball and the direction of the air resistance is opposite to the direction of motion of ball so it resists motion of ball this is also called drag force,the velocity of the ball decreases as it goes up and acceleration acts down wards because we know that change in velocity w.r.t time is acceleration so change in velocity would be negative in the above case so acceleration acts opposite to the velocity direction.
