Write the chemical equation for the reaction of propane with steam.

Balance the equation as shown below:

Initially there are three C atoms on the left and one on the right side of the equation. Balance the carbon atoms by placing a coefficient 3 in front of CO on the product side of the reaction.

Now the equation is balanced for carbon (C).

There is one O atom on the left and three on the right side of the equation. Place a coefficient 3 in front of  on the reactant side of the reaction. Now the equation is balanced for oxygen (O).

There are 14 H atoms on the left and two on the right side of the equation. Place a coefficient 7 in front of  on the product side of the reaction.

Now all of the atoms are balanced on both sides of the reaction.
