Chapter 8, Problem 34

(choose chapter or problem)

You are in a stadium doing the wave. This is a ritual in which members of the audience stand up and down in such a way as to create a wave that moves around the stadium. Normally a single wave travels all the way around the stadium, but we assume there is a continuous sequence of waves. Let h(x, t) = 5+cos(0.5x t) be the function describing this stadium wave. The value of h(x, t) gives the height (in feet) of the head of the spectator in seat x at time t seconds. Evaluate hx(2, 5) and ht(2, 5) and interpret each in terms of the wave.
