(a) If a concentrated source is placed at a node of some mode (eigenfunction), show that the amplitude of the response of that mode is zero. [Hint: Use the result of the method of eigenfunction expansion and recall that a node x of an eigenfunction means anyplace where n(x) = 0.] (b) If the eigenfunctions are sin nx/L and the source is located in the middle, x0 = L/2, show that the response will have no even harmonics.
