Chapter 24, Problem 80AP

(choose chapter or problem)

Ethers are compounds (excluding esters) that contain the C–O–C functional group. An acceptable way to name them is to list the two groups attached to oxygen in alphabetical order as separate words, followed by the word ether. If the two groups are the same, add the prefix di to the name of the alkyl group. Thus, CH3OCH2CH3 is “ethyl methyl ether” and CH3CH2OCH2CH3 is “diethyl ether.”Write structural formulas and provide names for all the constitutionally isomeric ethers in which only the C4H9 alkyl groups from 10.77 are attached to oxygen. Which of these ethers is potentially chiral?
