Chapter 8, Problem 8.48

(choose chapter or problem)

A flow meter to be used in a 40 em pipeline carrying oil (v = 10- 5 rn1 /s, p = 860 kg/m1 ) is to be calibrated by means of a model (1/9 scale) carrying water (T = 20C and standard atmospheric pressure). Tf the model is operated with a velocity of 1.6 rn/s, find the velocity for the prototype based on Reynolds-number scaling. For the given conditions, if the pressure difference in the model was measured as 3.0 kPa, what pressure difference would you expect for the discharge meter in the oil pipeline?
