Chloramphenicol (at right) is a potent antibiotic, isolated from Streptomyces venezuelae, practice problem 5.25 that is particularly effective against typhoid fever. It was the first naturally occurring substance shown to contain a nitro (iNO2) group attached to an aromatic ring. Both chirality centers in chloramphenicol are known to have the (R) configuration. Identify the two chirality centers and write a three-dimensional formula for chloramphenicol.
