(a) Show that replacing each of the CH2 protons by some group Q in the (S ) enantio- PRACTICE 9.5 mer of 2-butanol leads to a pair of diastereomers, as it does for the (R) enantiomer. (b) How many chemically nonequivalent sets of protons are there in 2-butanol? (c) How many 1 H NMR signals would you expect to find in the spectrum of 2-butanol?
