A \(20 \times 60-\mathrm{mm} \ (h \times b)\) rectangular bar with a 10-mm-diameter central hole (as shown in Figure 4.40) is made of steel having tensile and compressive yield strengths of 600 MPa. Assume an idealized stress–strain curve. The bar is initially free of residual stress. Make a drawing showing the approximate stress distribution in the plane of the hole (Figure P4.82):

(a) When a tensile force of 400 kN is applied to each end of the bar.

(b) After the load is removed.
