A \(10 \times 40-\mathrm{mm} \ (h \times b)\) steel rectangular bar (having compressive and tensile yield strengths of 300 MPa) has a 6-mm-diameter central hole (as shown in Figure 4.40). Assume that the bar is initially free of residual stress and that the steel material has an idealized stress–strain curve. Make a sketch showing the approximate stress distribution in the plane of the hole:
(a) When a tensile force of 100 kN is applied to each end of the bar.
(b) After the load is removed.
