In daily life, people are often praised for maintaining some particular point of view, for the “courage of their convictions.” A change of mind is seen as a sign of weakness. How is this different in science?

In science it is more about the facts and theories and experimental results. If a person a particular point of view, it is surely praised , but that idea which a person has need not be accepted or believed until he has proof to explain his theory or idea which he is been working on . But it is always recommended to have ideas and point of view as this helps in building theory and understanding science better
