Problem 29E

Dave's Automatic Door installs automatic garage door openers. The following list indicates the number of minutes needed to install a sample of 10 door openers: 28, 32, 24, 46, 44, 40, 54, 38, 32, and 42. Calculate the:

RangeArithmetic MeanMean Deviation

ANSWER:

Solution :

Step 1 of 3:

Given the number of minutes needed to install a sample of 10 door openers.

So n=10.

Then the data is 28, 32, 24, 46, 44, 40, 54, 38, 32, and 42.

Our goal is :

a). We need to find the Range.

b). We need to find the Arithmetic mean.

c). We need to find the mean deviation.

a). Now we have to calculate range.

First we have to write in ascending order.

24, 28, 32, 32, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 54.

Here the maximum value = 54 and the minimum value = 24.

The range formula is

Range = Maximum value-Minimum value

Range = 54-24

Range = 30

Therefore, the range is 30.
