Chapter 15, Problem 8

(choose chapter or problem)

Let σ be the cylindrical surface that is represented by the vector-valued function \(r(u, v) = cos\ vi + sin\ v j + uk\) with \(0 \leq u \leq 1\) and \(0 \leq v \leq 2 \pi\).

(a) Find the unit normal \(n = n(u, v)\) that defines the positive orientation of \(\sigma\).

(b) Is the positive orientation inward or outward? Justify your answer.

Equation Transcription:

0 ≤ u ≤ 1

0 ≤ v ≤ 2π

σ

Text Transcription:

r(u, v) = cos vi + sin v j + uk

0 <= u <= 1

0 <= v <= 2pi

n = n(u, v)
