Chapter , Problem 13AAE

(choose chapter or problem)

Suppose that a thin metal plate of area A and constant density \(\delta\) occupies a region R in the xy-plane, and let \(M_{y}\) be the plate’s moment about the y-axis. Show that the plate’s moment about the line is \(x = b\) is

a. \(M_{y}-b \delta A\) if the plate lies to the right of the line, and

b. \(b \delta A-M_{y}\) if the plate lies to the left of the line.
