The article Effects of a Rice-Rich Versus Potato-Rich Dieton Glucose, Lipoprotein, and Cholesterol Metabolism inNoninsulin-Dependent Diabetics (Amer. J. of Clinical Nutr.,1984: 598606) gives the accompanying data on cholesterolsynthesisrate for eight diabetic subjects. Subjects were fed astandardized diet with potato or rice as the major carbohydratesource. Participants received both diets for specifiedperiods of time, with cholesterol-synthesis rate (mmol/day)measured at the end of each dietary period. The analysispresented in this article used a distribution-free test. Usesuch a test with significance level .05 to determine whetherthe true mean cholesterol-synthesis rate differs significantlyfor the two sources of carbohydrates.
