AVS 1500- Bertrand Feedstuffs Concentrates: Highly digestible feedstuffs. Do not contain a lot of cellulose. Less than 18% fiber/cellulose ( crude fiber). ● Carbonaceous: Less than 20% crude protein. Provide a lot of energy. Corn, wheat, oats, barley, molasses. Corn is the main carbonaceous concentrate. ● Proteinaceous: Greater than 20% crude protein. Soybean meal is the main proteinaceous concentrate. Also include other cooked beans. Raw soybeans contain antitrypsin which blocks the enzyme needed f or igestion. Forages/Roughages: M ore than 8% crude fiber. ● Legumes: Greater than 10% protein. Have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria in their roots to llow for nitrogen ixation. ● Grasses: Do not have nitrogen fixation so they must obtain nitrogen from the soil.
