Chapter 12, Problem 12.1.1

(choose chapter or problem)

Use the Finite Difference method to approximate the solution to 2u x 2 + 2u y2 = 4, 0 < x < 1, 0 < y < 2; u(x, 0) = x 2, u(x, 2) = (x 2)2, 0 x 1; u(0, y) = y2, u(1, y) = (y 1)2, 0 y 2. Use h = k = 1 2 , and compare the results to the actual solution u(x, y) = (x y)2.
