Chapter 2, Problem 13

(choose chapter or problem)

A cable is made of an insulating material in the shape of a long, thin cylinder of radius r0. It has electric charge distributed evenly throughout it. The electric field, E, at a distance r from the center of the cable is given by E = kr for r r0 k r2 0 r for r>r0. (a) Is E continuous at r = r0? (b) Is E differentiable at r = r0? (c) Sketch a graph of E as a function of r.
