QUESTION:

Problem 2CT

In Exercise, the random variable x is normally distributed with mean µ = 18 and standard deviation σ = 7.6.

Find each probability.

(a) P(x > 20)

(b) P(0<x<5)

(c) P(x<9 or x > 27)

ANSWER:

Solution

Given that x is a normal random variable

With mean

And standard deviation

Step 1 of 3

a) We have to find

The standard normal variable

                                  Now

                                             =0.26

Now look at the standard normal tables for

                                                                                          =1-0.60642

                                                                                          =0.39358

Hence =0.39358
