Starting at t = 0, a concentrated load of magnitude F 0 moves with a constant velocity

Chapter 15, Problem 26

(choose chapter or problem)

Starting at t = 0, a concentrated load of magnitude F 0 moves with a constant velocity v0 along a semi-infinite string. In this case the wave equation becomes a2 - = - + F: S t - - a2u a2u ( x ) ax2 at2 O Vo ' where S(t - x/v0) is the Dirac delta function. Solve this PDE subject to u(O, t) = 0, u(x, 0) = 0, (a) when v0 * a, and (b) when v0 =a.
