QUESTION:

Figure Q2.8 shows six frames from the motion diagrams of two moving cars, A and B.

a. Do the two cars ever have the same position at one instant of time? If so, in which frame number (or numbers)?

b. Do the two cars ever have the same velocity at one instant of time? If so, between which two frames?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

Part a

The two cars will meet at the same position if the frame numbers coincide.

From the given figure, the frame number 3 of the car A coincides with the frame number 3 of the car B.

Therefore, at this frame number (3), the cars will be at the same position.

Similarly, at frame number 6 also, the position of the cars coincide. So, they once again meet at frame position 6.
