QUESTION:

Problem 11E

A 20 kg child is on a swing that hangs from 3.0-m-long chains. What is her maximum speed if she swings out to a 45° angle?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 4

We have to find the maximum speed of the child on a swing, if she swings out to a \(45^{\circ}\) angle.

We have used the law of conservation of energy to find the maximum speed of the child.

                                                \(E_{f}=E_{i}\)

                                                 \(K_{f}+U_{f}=K_{i}+U_{i}\)

\(i\) represents the energy at the bottom of the swing.

\(f\) represents the energy at the maximum height of the swing.

The problem can be best described as shown in the below figure.
