Types of Contractions A. Twitch 1. A fast, jerky response to a stimulus at threshold level. 2. These are generally not found in normal muscle activity, but in isolated muscles during research. B. Tetanic contractions 1. These are sustained contractions from the application of a series of stimuli. 1. These help in certain types of movements (carrying a heavy box). C. Tonic contractions (tonus, tone) Tone is partial contraction of a MUSCLE (not individual muscle cells which either are contracted or not contracted).
