QUESTION:

Two containers hold equal masses of nitrogen gas at equal temperatures. You supply \(10 \mathrm{~J}\) of heat to container \(A\) while not allowing its volume to change, and you supply \(10 \mathrm{~J}\) of heat to container \(B\) while not allowing its pressure to change. Afterward, is temperature \(T_{A}\) greater than, less than, or equal to \(T_{B}\)? Explain.

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 3

Our aim is to find the container having a greater temperature after the process gets over.

The applied heat Q = 10 J

The two containers A and B have an equal mass of nitrogen and at equal temperature (T) initially.

We are applying 10 J of energy to each container. The initial temperature of the containers is assumed to be T. Since the mass of the two containers are constant, the number of moles (n) is also constant
